Brown clear: "The sport can continue without Ferrari"

Zak Brown is not at all happy with the way conversations are currently going about lowering the budget cap. All teams are in conclave with each other now that the corona crisis is putting a lot of teams in financial difficulties. Ferrari in particular, however, is sputtering against it.

Mattia Binotto is one of the few who does not want to be directly involved in further lowering the maximum amount the teams can spend per year in Formula 1. Earlier Brown already indicated that he does not agree with Binotto's opinion.

The team boss of Ferrari does not think this is the time for hasty decisions while Brown does. It is precisely in times of crisis that choices have to be made that guarantee the survival of Formula 1. The team boss of McLaren even goes a step further if Binotto doesn't want to catch up:

"If we don't lower the limit we discourage the small teams because they can't bear the costs anymore. I don't think Formula 1 can survive with fourteen cars. Sixteen is the minimum and eighteen is safe. Formula 1 can survive without Ferrari but I prefer that they stay in the sport."

Proposal Christian Horner

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner had another proposal that could not count on the approval of Zak Brown. Horner wants to offer the small teams a package with components of their car from the previous year, instead of lowering the budget cap.

"That's a proposal from the seventies. Formula 1 is about design and technological development. That's the DNA of the sport," concludes Brown to Motorsport-Total through a videocall.
