Formula 1 is currently working hard to find a solution to the problem caused by the coronavirus. The sport can't stand still much longer without teams falling over.

Options enough for the F1

That's why the sport is busy finding alternatives for the current season, but also for the next season. As the season in 2020 will be pretty full and there will be a lot of races in a row, the question is what will happen before 2021, if the teams are not allowed to do much about the car either.

According to Christian Horner, the rules are currently set in such a way that no less than 60% of the development for 2021 is frozen. So little can be done about the cars and that offers an opportunity. With races of 2020 possible in December or even in January of 2021, F1 does need a chance.

No winter tests

And that chance would be to get rid of the winter tests. The tests in Barcelona start a few weeks before the first official race weekend, but that requires preparation. According to Andreas Seidl, Formula 1 is now looking at options to cancel this test and start the season right away.

''We all don't think it would be a big problem. We are always right there in Barcelona, so we could do the same for the first race. If you see the reliability of the cars in recent years, we might as well have started in Melbourne'', Seidl is clear to the official channel of Formula 1.
