Marko withdraws: ''I'm not sending my children to war voluntarily''

On Sunday Helmut Marko caused a stir with his statements in the programme Sport am Sonntag of ORF, stating that he wanted to infect his drivers with the coronavirus. However, he will come back to that now.

In the broadcast Marko was able to tell that there was a plan to let the Red Bull drivers go to camp, so that they would all become infected with the coronavirus. A bizarre thought at the present time, but Marko was already defended by Christian Horner. Now the Austrian will come back to the broadcast himself.

"Of course that's not true. I didn't mean to deliberately infect anyone. That's what happened with all the cutting and sticking work on the transmitter. It seems clear to me that I don't voluntarily send my own children into the war'', says Marko now in conversation with F1-insider.com. He does explain what the original plan was.

''Of course you have to be careful in times of a pandemic, but you also have to be able to see it in perspective. I had the virus in February. If people my age can survive it, then young athletes should be less afraid of the consequences. That was the only reason we wanted to organize the camp. Deliberate contamination has never been an issue,'' concluded the Red Bull Racing top man.
