Starting in 2020, Formula 1 drivers will be able finally able to use different helmet designs throughout the season again. Whereas in recent seasons only minor changes have been allowed, drivers will now be able to decide everything themselves.

Changing helmets

Sebastian Vettel was known to change helmets many times during his championship years at Red Bull Racing. Max Verstappen expressed his appreciation for this and has also used different designs in the past. Lando Norris might even go a step further this season.

''I have a lot planned for this year and I also see it as a great addition for this season. My plan is to introduce a new helmet every race so I can display it on my wall at home. Now I can think a bit more out of the box and try something different every race'', says the Brit to Racefans.net.

Norris retains one concept

Still, we shouldn't expect huge changes from the McLaren driver. ''I'll keep working with the same concept, because that's just who I am. But everything around it and the colours will vary from race to race. I've been working with MDM Designs since karting and together we'll come up with great ideas''.

What effect it will have on the Formula 1 season is still unknown. Not all drivers are eager to change their helmets every week and a lot depends on sponsors. For example, AlphaTauri drivers with their Red Bull-coloured helmets are not exactly free in their choice to change helmets.
