Highly rated among fellow drivers and pundits, Sam Bird has been a mainstay in Formula E since its inception in 2014. Sadly for the Briton, he has not turned his performances in titles, but we look into the man who at his peak is unstoppable.

Bird has always been quick in his junior career, although results did not show this, the London born racer finished 5th, 6th, and 2nd in his three years in GP2 sandwiched a successful 3rd placed finish in Formula Renault 3.5, along with driving for Mercedes in the 2010 Abu Dhabi young drivers test.

Spells in FIA World Endurance Championships where he claimed the LMP2 title in 2015 was followed up with a 2nd place in the LMGTE-Pro class in 2016, but it was in Formula E where Bird really made his name.

He is the only man in the history of the sport to win a race in every season, with victory in the season-opening Diriyah E-Prix, but crashes and poor qualifying since has left him in 10th in the standing before the sports suspension due to coronavirus.

Bird had a drop off in performance last season, with a 9th placed finish in the championship a major drop from his 3rd placed finish in the 2017/18. A 5th and two 4th placed finishes in the previous three championships before showed just how good Bird is, but he will need to bring his a game to beat a grid glittered with rising stars, former F1 drivers and experienced racers when the season recommences again at the earliest point in May.
