Top 5 F3 drivers to look out for in 2020

Formula 3 like Formula 2, breeds only the best young talent on their paths towards the promised land of Formula 1. We pick out our top five drivers to look out for in 2020.

1. Frederik Vesti

The 2019 Formula Regional European Championship Champion, Danish racer Vesti breezed to the title after 13 wins from 24 races with Prema, who he signs for in 2020. He finished 10th at the 2019 Macau Grand Prix, his first taste of the new F3 machinery and impressed instantly. Unsure on his racing future due to finances, Vesti will be looking for a repeat of the 2019 this season in an exciting Prema line-up.

2. Liam Lawson

Unlucky to miss out on a repeat of his 2019 Toyota Racing Series Championship this year, New Zealander Lawson will be looking improve on his eleventh place from last season's F3 campaign, having also finished second in the Euroformula Open Championship behind champion and F2 rookie Marino Sato. 2020 looks like a big year for Lawson if he can get a string of results together.

3. Richard Verschoor

Like Lawson, a second season beckons for Verschoor after a 13th placed finish in the series last campaign. Verschoor showed his true pace as he stormed to victory in the Macau Grand Prix and is firmly one of the favourites to claim the title this season. The Dutchman will be hoping to emulate fellow countryman Max Verstappen in making it two dutchmen at the pinnacle of motorsport.

4. Igor Fraga

From gamer to racer. Igor Fraga personifies this to the extreme, with the Brazilian proving that it is possible to move from e-sports to single-seater racing and have an impact. Fraga was in racing while gaming and finished third in Formula Regional European Championship last season, as well beating Liam Lawson to the 2020 Toyota Racing Series Championship title. Now signed up to the Red Bull Junior team, Fraga will be looking to take the F3 season by storm in order to continue his stunning rise in motorsport.

5. David Schumacher

Son of F1 winner Ralf Schumacher, and cousin to F2 racer Mick, David joins the F3 series full-time having competed at last season's Russian event along with finishing 4th in the Formula Regional European Championship. At 18, David has years to develop into an extremely fast racer, but with Mick on the verge of F1, David will be hoping to reach the top sooner rather than later.
