Christian Horner and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing wanted to the Australian Grand Prix weekend to continue. Right up until the final hours, the event was still going ahead despite a McLaren team member testing positive for coronavirus. Horner sheds light into the conversations the organisers had. It seems as if they were thinking of running Friday practice to buy some time.

Fans and team members started arriving at the Albert Park circuit ready for action. After what seemed like a long delay, Chase Carey and co walked out to inform the event in Melbourne had been cancelled. During this time, Horner reports a lot of "different scenarios were discussed".

“We discussed the possibility of closing the paddock and some other extra precautions. The health agency and the FIA were fine with continuing if the majority of the teams were fine. But unfortunately, that was not the case," Horner tells the Dutch branch of motorsport.com.

"It is of course very disappointing not to race. But we have to think about the well-being of our staff. In the end, the FIA and the promoter decided to cancel the event. It's frustrating."
