Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya "analysing" options amid F1 coronavirus chaos

The Spanish Grand Prix is in serious doubt after F1 bosses said they are expecting to start the season towards the end of May. Events in Australia, Bahrain, Vietnam and China have all be affected by the coronavirus, and more events are expected to be troubled. Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya have released a statement regardding their Spanish Grand Prix. 

The Spanish Grand Prix is currently scheduled for May 8-10. The circuit is closed until at least April 5 following safety measures taken to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Even though a postponement hasn't been confirmed for the Grand Prix, the bosses are already assessing options in preparation. 

“Although these measures do not affect the staging period of the Formula 1 Gran Premio de Espana 2020 (8 and 10 May), Formula 1 and the FIA have announced changes in the Grand Prix calendar, and we are already analysing the different available options with Formula 1,” the statement read.

“Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will continue monitoring the evolution of the pandemic, staying in permanent contact with the different bodies and health authorities in order to continue implementing the applicable measures and recommendations, ensuring the health and safety of our visitors,” the statement added.

Summer Break

Any European races postponed are expected to slot back into place during the sport's traditional summer break.
