The 2020 season gets underway this weekend in Australia and one of the talking points in the build-up to the year has been the battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. There were sparks last year when Verstappen said he would beat the six-time world champion in an equal machine. Lando Norris chips in on the debate.

Norris and Verstappen now know each other very well. The two have already met in the junior classes and regularly run against and with each other on iRacing. The young British driver has often seen the Dutchman drive.

According to Norris, Verstappen is an even better racer than Hamilton. "Lewis has driven many decent drivers for many years. He is very strong in qualifying. He runs the laps flawlessly and then he runs the race flawlessly from the start," the Norris explained to PA News Agency.

Different strengths

Despite reeling off the last three world championship to take his tally to one behind Michael Schumacher, Norris sees areas where Hamilton could improve in an F1 car.

"You never see him making great catch-ups. Probably because he always drives in the front. Yet you constantly see Max making those actions. Both drivers have their strengths but in slightly different areas. It would be great to see those two fight each other directly this year. They are the ones who can really prove themselves. Let's hope we have an exciting fight for the championship next season before the rules are changed in 2021," Norris said.
