Fernando Alonso may be further than ever from a Formula 1 return but that doesn't mean stars from the world of motorsport don't want him to return. Pedro de la Rosa has admitted he thinks the best drivers should be in F1 and he hopes the Spaniard returns to the sport one day.

Alonso retired from Formula 1 in 2018 but has been consistently linked with a return to the pinnacle of motorsport. His latest move in motorsport will see him team up with Arrow McLaren in IndyCar as he looks to complete the final part of the 'Triple crown', the Indy 500.

Alonso's compatriot, Pedro de la Rosa hopes to see Alonso back in the cockpit of an F1 car and achieve his third Formula 1 World Championship.

“I hope he will return to the sport one day, that's the reality. I believe that the best drivers should be in Formula 1 and he is undoubtedly one of them," de la Rosa told Europe Press.

“I always say that I am a romantic and I would like to see him leave Formula 1 with the third title under his arms. That would do justice to his enormous talent."
