The countdown to the much anticipated Dutch Grand Prix is on and with the track finally completed Jos Verstappen has been singing its praises admitting he didn't expect it a year ago.

Jos' son, Max will be looking to win his home Grand Prix at the first time of asking when Zandvoort returns to the calendar in May. Despite rumours, it could end up being the first race of the season due to the coronavirus the return of the Dutch Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday, May 3rd.

Jos Verstappen will be hoping his son can win the first F1 Dutch GP since 1985 but even he admitted he wasn't convinced it would come together as well as it has.

"I have to say for Zandvoort what they have deposited. I didn't expect it a year ago. It has definitely improved a lot. I am very enthusiastic," Verstappen sr told RTL GP.

"Yes, everyone notices the enthusiasm as soon as there is a new circuit. The best part is turn 2 and turn 3. I think turn 3 really worked out very well. That's where you dive really down and there are many different lines.

"Zandvoort was always known for if you make a mistake, you stand in the gravel bin. Run-out lanes have been placed in a few turns, but if you make a mistake you have to make a detour and lose 6.7 seconds. Which is good. You can't afford a mistake."
