Toto Wolff says there may be break clauses in Verstappen and Leclerc's contracts!

Toto Wolff says that the long term contracts of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc with their respective teams may not mean that the two drivers will stay there throughout the length of their deals. Mercedes may be looking for a driver soon with Lewis Hamilton now 35 years old.

Verstappen has previously been linked with a move to Mercedes, whilst Leclerc is seen as his nearest challenger for the upcoming decade.

Mercedes have dominated F1 in recent times, so in theory, they may get their pick of the drivers, and Wolff believes as long as Mercedes are on top, this will be the case, despite contracts.

Wolff told Auto Motor und Sport: "As long as we build a fast car, we can choose who will drive for us.

"I think the contracts are much more complex than they are presented in the media. I would be surprised if both drivers commit themselves to a team for five years and keep the door closed for other teams."

Wolff also says that Mercedes are happy with their junior drivers as well, adding: "We have a pool of juniors that we support and that are doing well. George Russell has not made a mistake at Williams and Esteban Ocon will be fine at Renault in the coming years. At the same time, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas are of course very important parts of the team."
