Imola puts itself forwards to replace Chinese GP!

Imola's director has sent F1 an application to replace the Chinese Grand Prix with a race at the famous Italian track after the event in Shanghai was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak. To give it its full name, the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari has not held an F1 race since 2006, but has been angling for a return to the calendar.

Imola is known as one of the most fearsome and difficult tracks on the calendar, despite the toning down it received following the tragic events of 1994, where both Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna were killed in the same weekend.

Track director Roberto Marazzi told RacingNews365: "We have indeed submitted an application to the FIA and the F1 organisation to replace the Chinese GP.

"We have not yet received a response. I expect it is difficult to get everything arranged."

If a race at Imola does happen, it would likely be called the San Marino Grand Prix, as it was when it last appeared on the calendar in the mid-2000s,
