Five drivers to keep an eye on in the 2020 Formula 1 season

The 2020 Formula 1 season is almost upon us. After waiting patiently over the winter break, Formula 1 is finally starting to enter back into all of our lives. Here are five drivers you might want to keep your eyes on when the season starts.

Esteban Ocon

The Frenchman will make his return to Formula 1 after a year on the sidelines as a Mercedes reserve driver. Ocon has signed for Renault and will be really looking forward to getting back to racing in the top tier of motorsport.

There is no denying his raw talent but it will be interesting to see if all his time away from racing means that it will take a few Grand Prix's for him to get up to speed. His battle with Daniel Ricciardo is mouth-wateringly tasty.

Lewis Hamilton

Not many drivers will ever have the opportunity to win their seventh driver's championship. This is a possibility for the Mercedes driver. If he wins again this year then he will equal Michael Schumacher's all-time record.

Mercedes are certain to be on the pace and it will be interesting to see if anyone can push Hamilton and if we see a genuine battle for the title this year.

Pierre Gasly

Last year was a disaster for the Frenchman. He started off racing with Red Bull Racing but was then dropped back down to Toro Rosso after it was deemed he wasn't performing well enough.

However, in the second stint of the season, Gasly drove like he was trying to prove a point and even managed to get on the podium in Brazil. He will continue to want to show that Red Bull made the wrong decision and it will be exciting to see how he gets on in 2020.

Sebastian Vettel

2020 is a vital season for Sebastian Vettel. If he fails to perform then his Formula 1 career is almost certainly over. In 2019 he was comprehensively beaten by his teammate Charles Leclerc and the pressure is on him to turn things around in 2020.

The four-time world champion obviously has the talent and it will add another element to the season if Vettel returns to previous form.

George Russell

Admittedly this is a strange addition to this list but George Russell really impressed in 2019. He did all he could in the Williams and if the team can produce a faster car then it is almost certain that Russell will be further up the grid.

He is a fast driver and will be desperate to improve in 2020.
