Brundle: F1 will see first "duel" between young talents and world champion in 2020

The start of the 2020 Formula 1 season is coming ever closer. Martin Brundle is looking forward to the first race in Australia, as he expects a season-long battle that we have never seen before in the series.

The commentator for Sky Sports F1 expects the teams to be a lot closer together after virtually no regulation changes were made. Along with that, the tyres remain the same compounds as last year after teams voted to bin the 2020 Pirellis.

"Almost nothing has changed for the coming season, which means that the cars will all be closer together," Brundle tells AutoMotoSport.de.

"Next season we will also see the duel between the world champion and the young drivers. We have never seen the duel between the upcoming talent and the world champion. We will see that game next season, namely between Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton."

Junior classes

In recent years, the worth of Formula 2 has increased. This is because it has been a successful link in that we've had many young talents cross the bridge. Namely, Lando Norris, George Russell and Alex Albon have all proven their worth in Formula 1. As a result of this, Brundle is giving the junior classes a bit more attention in 2020.

"Because of the younger drivers, I also started to look more at the junior classes of F1 (F2, F3). In these classes, you can see that the drivers are enormously confident and catch up in places where it is actually not possible. That way of driving is also reflected in the current young group of drivers. You can see that they are confident, in the car and in front of the camera," he added.
