Haas F1 driver Kevin Magnussen has stated that it is his “dream to become World Champion” during his time racing in Formula 1 and that he can’t imagine spending it “battling for seventh” the whole time.

Magnussen entered F1 with McLaren in 2014 and raced to a podium finish straight away in Australia, finishing third and later being promoted to second after Daniel Ricciardo’s disqualification.

Since then the 27-year old hasn’t managed another podium and has moved to the most recent addition to the F1 grid in Haas, where he has recorded a best ninth place finish in the championship and highest result of fifth in 2018.

But the Dane still has his eyes set on the sports’ biggest trophy.

“I am in Formula 1 because my dream is to be World Champion, it’s not to get into the top 10,” he told Danish newspaper BT.

“I can’t imagine spending all my good years in racing battling for seventh."

"It's a tough process. But if I can overperform over a long period of time, hopefully will I get taken to one of the big teams. I have to be consistent until I can open that door.

"There will come a time when I will no longer believe that I can become world champion, but I'm not there yet.”

In addition to becoming an F1 World Champion, Magnussen also wants success in some of motorsports other biggest competitions.

"I also dream of winning Le Mans and Daytona - but the Formula 1 dream still shines that little bit brighter,” he added.
