McLaren Racing CEO doesn't expect his F1 side to make similar strides in 2020 as they did in 2019 as the American eyes next year as "where it gets really exciting", adding McLaren's 2021 challenger is already in the windtunnel.

After another season to forget in 2018, McLaren bounced back terrifically in 2019 as the Woking-based side topped the midfield in dominant fashion, ending the year in fourth place in the constructors' championship.

The next step for the papaya orange cars is to close the gap to the top three teams ahead, with 2019 already providing the occasional battle between McLaren and  Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, like when Carlos Sainz held off Pierre Gasly for P5 at the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

While McLaren don't expect to be massive strides again in 2020 like they did last year, they are expecting things from next year, when regulations are set to undergo massive changes.

“I think ’21 is going to be where it gets really exciting,” Brown said at the Autosport International Show.

"The ’21 car is already in the windtunnel and we feel pretty good about the ’20 car and we just need to keep our heads down and know that it’s not just going to happen overnight.

“We’re going to have some great weekends and some bad weekends but let’s just hope we keep moving forward.”

Could McLaren make the leap in 2021 and become a championship contender? Do they have the infrastructure and the personnel to challenge the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari? Let us know in the comments!
