Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has expressed how thrilled he is by the performances of Formula 2 champion Nyck de Vries, now part of Mercedes' Formula E outfit, with Wolff praising the Dutchman's maturity in his rookie season.

As of now, de Vries is the first Formula 2 champion not to move on to F1 since Davide Valsecchi as the 24-year-old got offered a drive at Mercedes' newly formed works team in FE.

De Vries lines up next to another former GP2 champion in Stoffel Vandoorne, and the duo have been performing very well, sitting in second place in the constructors' championship behind just BMW.

Vandoorne is actually leading the championship as it stands while De Vries sits in 11th, but Wolff opted to praise the Dutchman and his start to life in FE.

“Nyck has already contributed a great deal to the team’s performance,” the Austrian told Crash.net.

“He’s very mature and the way he’s – as a personality and as a racing driver – been able to slot into the team with Stoffel is really nice to see.

“We have set our ambitions or our expectations on a realistic target, which we have overachieved and both of the drivers contributed to this happening.”
