Robert Kubica made his return to Formula 1 in 2019 after a life-changing rally crash. However, it wasn't a successful season for the Polish driver after the Williams car remained uncompetitive on their rivals. In 2020, Kubica won't be on the grid but will be the third driver for Alfa Romeo. Racing Point owner, Lawerence Stroll might also have been interested in signing his talents as he admits he was impressed with Kubica's character.

Kubica managed to score the only point of the season for Williams, but he was out-qualified by rookie teammate George Russell in every single Grand Prix weekend. Despite these beatings, Kubica always carried on fighting and Stroll highlights this strength in his character.

“Kubica is not stuck in defeat. When he falls, he always gets up again, both in sports and in life. I have never seen such a fighter," Stroll says to the Polish Sport.pl.

Kubica highlights struggles following his crash

The crash in 2011 caused serious damage to his arm. As a result of this, there are significant setbacks.

Kubica told Polish TVP: “With the accident of 2011, twenty years of pure passion suddenly changed into nothing. I not only had to recover physically but also mentally. A small example of this are my shoelaces. I was always a little lazy and never tied them. But now I will never be able to tie my shoelaces again. My body and mind have come a long way, but the end result counts."
