Wolff: "No political games" at Mercedes will help Hamilton achieve F1 records

Lewis Hamilton has a mathematical chance of beating a number of Michael Schumacher records during the 2020 F1 season. He will also be able to equal Schumacher's title tally if the British driver wins the Formula 1 world championship for a fourth consecutive year. However, Toto Wolff says it'll be business as usual at Mercedes and he won't be given any advantage over Valtteri Bottas within the team. 

Hamilton has Schumacher's seven championship trophies insight, but he could take some more records. The Mercedes driver requires just eight wins to beat Schumacher's record of 91 Grands Prix wins. 

Schumacher was given priority over his teammates during his time at Ferrari. It'll be interesting to see which driver Ferrari will promote this year with a four-time world champion teaming up with Charles Leclerc who has signed with the team until 2024. With all this going on, Wolff confirms Bottas and Hamilton will be free to fight without any advantage. 

No political games 

“We have always been very neutral with the drivers and we want to give them equal material and equal opportunities. They both know that. There are no secrets within the team in that regard, no political games are played," Wolff told Sky Sports.

As we have seen before in the Mercedes garage, this rule often remains in place for the first half of the season. If one driver gains a significant advantage in the F1 drivers' championship, then they will be given priority. Remember the 2018 Russian Grand Prix?
