Cyril Abiteboul on Renault: "We are on a ramp-up"

Cyril Abiteboul believes that Renault are on the way up and will start improving in 2020 with the goal of winning in 2021 still in mind. With two talented drivers at the wheel there is no excuse and it is now up to the team to provide a competitive car capable of winning. 

“We are on a ramp-up,” Abiteboul said to the official Formula 1 website. 

"I think all of that is possible, but the difficulty first is to maintain that P4 position now that McLaren has been able to come back from where they were before and the main difficulty will be not to stay P5 or P4 – because we should not be content with that. We want to bridge the gap with the top teams.”

Abiteboul has targetted 2021 as the year for his team to succeed. 

"Everything in our program has been built around that long-term target of 2021 because, in accordance to our strategy, that’s really the first opportunity to make that happen."

Renault now have the drivers to achieve their goals, it will be interesting to see how they perform in 2020 and if they will be able to battle with the likes of McLaren and Ferrari in 2021.
