Lewis Hamilton left out of New Years Honours list – How social media reacted
Lewis Hamilton has been left absent from the New Years Honours list despite claiming a sixth World Championship with Mercedes in 2019 leaving many fans questioning why.
Hamilton wrapped up his sixth title this year, his fifth this decade, and helped Mercedes to their sixth constructors title in a row that saw him win 11 of the 21 races on the calendar.
He now sits just one World Championship behind legend Michael Schumacher, as well as being only eight race wins off breaking the Germans record of 91 victories.
The Briton was awarded an MBE in 2008 after winning his first championship with McLaren but is yet to join the likes of Stirling Moss, Jack Brabham and Jackie Stewart in receiving a knighthood.
Hamilton was recently named second in BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year to Cricketer Ben Stokes, who has been selected for an OBE on the New Years Honours list, leaving many to argue why the 34-year old has still been left out.

How has Lewis Hamilton missed out on a knighthood again? I’m not a Lewis fan by any stretch but 6 world titles, making him one of the GOATs not just of F1 but of British sport, yet still no recognition. I just don’t get it. #HonoursList #NewYearsHonours https://t.co/NQsy63SYgJ

Lewis Hamilton obviously needs to take up baking or throw a ball before he’ll be honoured any further... what has the man gotta do? That’s me now in a bad mood all day. #NewYearsHonours

#NewYearHonours Lewis Hamilton is a contributor to Great Ormond Street hospital, Unicef, The Honeypot Children's Charity. Many times after a race, instead of leaving the country immediately, he will stay and visit children in poor villages (India) and slums on behalf of UNICEF.

F1 champions and the UK honours system as it stands, in order of seniority: Jackie Stewart (knighthood), John Surtees and Nigel Mansell CBE, Jim Clark, Graham and Damon Hill all OBE, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton MBE. Mike Hawthorn and James Hunt nothing...

Staggered Lewis not on the honours list. And I don’t buy into the tax bollocks either. He wears a Union Jack with pride, he’s the most famous British sports person, and the greatest champion - of any sport - that this country has produced. Travesty.

Do you think Hamilton should have been named on the New Years Honours list?
