George Russell had a strong debut season in Formula 1, comprehensively beating his teammate Robert Kubica. However, due to Williams' lack of pace, the rookie spent much of his time a the back of the grid and was unable to score a single championship point.

Alex Albon and Lando Norris also made their Formula 1 debuts in 2019 but were able to compete a lot higher up the grid. However, Russell believes that he was able to make more mistakes and learn more this year than the other youngsters could.

"This year I learned a lot and I was able to fine-tune," said Russell to Motorsport.com“If I had been in the shoes of Lando or Alex, then you know that you can't make mistakes every weekend. That can be the difference between P7 and P13.

“For example, they did not have the opportunity to try something out with a new set of tires during FP3. That has been my advantage and that is why I am a more complete driver."

Russell will hope that his experience in 2019 will help him in a more competitive 2020 where he will score a few more points.
