Red Bull's biggest error: "Why didn't they take Carlos Sainz back?"

Red Bull Racing had a solid season in 2019 but former F1 driver turned pundit Karun Chandhok believes that the team has made a number of errors since their dominance in the early 2010s.

"It went wrong when they thought they no longer needed to invest. They had Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber and behind them Carlos Sainz, Daniil Kvyat, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne.

"A whole laundry list and I think they missed the boat then. They probably didn't expect drivers like Vettel, Ricciardo and Sainz to leave," said Chandhok in a video from Motorsport Magazine.

Chandhok thinks that they should have held onto McLaren's Carlos Sainz who joined Toro Rosso in 2015.

"Why didn't they take Sainz back? There was a chance when his period at Renault ended, but then Red Bull chose Gasly and McLaren took over Sainz. If you look back on that now, that is really a wrong decision and you wonder if they have been asleep?"

Sainz is really impressing and finished the season 'best of the rest' and will hope to push on even further in 2020.
