Zak Brown has not ruled out McLaren joining a third racing series but has said racing in the WEC would have to make financial sense. The Woking-based Formula 1 team also race in IndyCar and they will wait and see before committing to an additional series.

"Right now we only have two and we would only do the third one if it was sustainable and that is why we have not decided now with the current regulations," Brown said to Motorsport.com

"We are not comfortable if we cannot make it work economically. The IndyCar is a good business, we can make it work. We did it, in fact. Believe it or not, we got it this year, despite the fiasco of not qualifying (for 500 Miles from Indianapolis)."

Brown has revealed that McLaren F1 are losing money and currently it would not make sense to race in a different series and potentially lose more money.

"In F1 we are losing a lot of money, but with the next spending ceiling and sponsorships, it will go very well. We see that the trajectory of F1 is leading us to sustainability, so we are now assessing resistance.

"If we can get a business model that works, then we will enter. But what we are not going to do is participate in another category that is not economically responsible."

It will be interesting to see if McLaren join the WEC in the future and if they can sort their finances out next season.
