Carlos Sainz produced a strong showing in 2019, finishing sixth in the final drivers' standings, one point ahead of Pierre Gasly. And following such a strong season, the Spaniard has been linked with moves away from McLaren to the top teams but he isn't worried about that.

"There are no precise goals for 2020, but the most important thing is that development continues and we get closer to our rivals," Sainz said during a sponsoring event in Madrid.

“2020 is a year in which we must continue with what we did. For 2021 and 2022 we don't know anything yet. I'm going on holiday with zero worries.

The 25-year-olds contract at McLaren expires at the end of next year but he isn't ready to talk about that just yet.

"It's too early to talk about 2021, but it is no secret that I am very happy with this project and another step forward will only motivate me more."

"There is currently no reason for me to look elsewhere for opportunities because I am very happy at McLaren."
