Ferrari says it is “prepared to invest” more money for their 2020 and 2021 campaigns before the introduction of the budget cap, starting with building a new simulator.

The Scuderia are without a title in 11 seasons having failed to beat Mercedes the past few years despite being competitive and winning races.

But Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri and team principal Mattia Binotto are prepared to invest into the team after a strong financial year.

"We're also prepared to invest," said Camilleri to Motorsport.com.

"And luckily the car business can support those investments, not only in terms of people, but also in terms of infrastructure."

A new simulator is one of the starting points for the Italian team, which is already under way to go alongside the development of their 2020 and 2021 cars.

Part of the reason for their heavy investment next year is due to the budget cap being introduced in 2021, limiting teams to spending $175m on development, but this will not affect the development of their 2021 car.

"Yes, it will be significantly more expensive," Binotto said of next year.

"The budget we've got available is the one that's needed. Certainly, the number of projects in parallel are significantly more compared to the past.

"We all started very early [on the 2021 car]. So yes, there will be significant extra budget next year, not only about money but resources – extra people would be required to run the programmes.

"I think it's got to be a situation to be managed right now."
