Formula 2 change penalty point rule

Formula 2 change penalty point rule

Formula 2 have announced they have revised the rule regarding penalty points and when the punishment for accruing 12 points takes place.

The change comes in light of Mahaveer Raghunathan picking up 12 points on two separate occasions. The MP Motorsport driver picked up nine points on one occasion for speeding three times under the safety car.

However, Raghunathan did not serve a ban for the second set after picking them up during a practice session in Abu Dhabi. The revised rule will now see drivers banned for the rest of the event if they receive penalty points during an event.

“If a driver accrues 12 penalty points during a free practice or qualifying, he will be suspended for the remainder of the event,” the new rules say.

“If a driver accrues 12 penalty points in a race, he will be suspended for the following event. After the suspension has been issued, 12 points will be removed.”
