Valtteri Bottas has said that he must “fine tune everything” to become “Bottas 2.77” to beat Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton in 2020, whilst expecting a tougher challenge from both Ferrari and Red Bull.

Bottas made a statement at the start of the 2019 season winning in Australia and going onto win again in Azerbaijan after two seasons of being second best to Hamilton.

His impressive performances gave him the ‘Bottas 2.0’ after a dismal and to 2018 but the Finn couldn’t mount a title challenge yet again but finished second in the standings behind his teammate.

The 30-year old has said that a World Championship is his ultimate goal and is prepared to take his driving to the next level for it.

"The fact is, I think competition is only going to get tougher between the top three teams,” he told Autosport.

"So, for sure beating Lewis is always hard, but it means also beating the other drivers.

"But I know I have the speed in me and the ability so I don't think I need to make any miracles.

"I need to fine-tune everything - so, let's say 'Bottas 2.77', maybe."

His 2019 campaign saw his two wins early in the season, as well as victories in Japan and the US and 11 podium finishes, his best season to date.

"It's been a very good year of improvement all around,” he added.

"Every part of what it takes to be a complete driver, what makes the difference to get the wins and the results, and I just need to continue the progress really with the team.

"I've been learning a lot about myself for sure from last year to this year, and from all the mistakes from last year.

“It's been helping me to be a better driver.”
