Daniel Ricciardo is one race away from completing his first Formula 1 season at Renault. In his preview piece for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend, the Australian looks back at the whole season and ahead to next year which he believes will be better.

12 months ago and Renault were secure in fourth place, but this year they've dropped to at least fifth. If Toro Rosso outscores Renault by nine points, they'll jump ahead in the F1 constructors' championship. Despite this drop in results, Ricciardo is confident the team are on the right track for 2020 F1.

"It’s been an interesting year for sure starting with a new team, and I think it’s fair to say there have been some good times, as well as some difficult periods. I think the results we achieved in Canada, the fourth place in Monza, and good performances recently in Brazil and the US, are proof that we’ve had more consistency throughout the year. It bodes well for us and puts us in a good direction for next season," Ricciardo said.

"Abu Dhabi has always been a pretty good track for me and it’s an enjoyable race, so I’m really looking forward to getting out on track to end the season on a high. We have a bit of pressure on us in the race for fifth in the Constructors’ Championship, but it means we have something to fight for and I like that feeling."

Most of the attention will be on the other side of the Renault garage as Nico Hulkenberg leaves the team after three seasons. Ricciardo will pair up with Esteban Ocon for the 2020 season.
