"Enormously important" for Toro Rosso to finish as high as possible

Pierre Gasly's P2 at the Brazilian Grand Prix has helped Toro Rosso move within eight points of Renault. The Frenchman has their rivals well in his sights as he targets fifth in the Constructors' Championship.

Gasly held off Lewis Hamilton on the final lap of the race at Interlagos to stand second on the podium, next to his former teammate Max Verstappen, making it a Honda one-two. Combined with Daniil Kvyat's solitary point, it closed the gap to Renault to just eight points.

With McLaren a level ahead of the midfield this season, it is left to Renault and Toro Rosso to fight it out for fifth. Gasly has stressed the importance of finishing as high as possible and finish the season on a high.

“It will be enormously important for all of us at Toro Rosso to finish as high as possible," Gasly said in the Toro Rosso preview.

"I still have the chance to become the best driver in the championship from outside the top three teams.

“We want to end the season in a good way. Not only because of our pride, but also because our position in the championship has an impact on our development and opportunities for next season.

“Whatever happens on Sunday, I will be satisfied with how my season went. In particular my return to Toro Rosso mid-season. I will never forget my very first podium after my second place in Brazil."
