Sebastian Vettel has said that it is “not so important” in finishing higher than Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in the drivers standings but want to score as many points as he can over the final two races.

Vettel, Leclerc and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen are caught in a three-way battle for third place in the championship after MercedesLewis Hamilton claimed his sixth world title and Valtteri Bottas secured second place.

The German’s retirement due to suspension failure cost him in Austin as he sits on 230 points behind, Verstappen in fourth (235), and Leclerc in third (249).

But the 32-year old is just focused on scoring the maximum and doing the best he can possible.

“To be honest, it’s not so important to finish in front of Charles. I think it’s more important to finish as high up as you can,” Vettel said as quoted by Crash.net.

“Obviously places one and two are out of reach, and obviously the third one is the one I guess him, Max and myself are aiming for.

“For me it’s quite important to make sure I do everything I can to score as many points as I need or as many points as I can, and see where I am at.

“I think what the team deserves as well, to finish the season in style, and we try to have two great races from here onwards.”

Who do you think will finish third in the championship between these three?
