The first half of the Formula 1 season was one to forget for Ferrari as they didn't win a single race. Sebastian Vettel has revealed it took until the Spanish Grand Prix for the penny to drop at the Scuderia that they weren't quick enough.

It took Ferrari until the Belgian Grand Prix to win a race on that occasion Charles Leclerc stood on top the podium and he would again at the Italian Grand Prix. Vettel won the Singapore Grand Prix but that is their only victories this season.

"The winter tests were a positive moment. The first test day was fantastic and there was certainly euphoria outside the team. We have always remained calm within the team itself," Seb told Motorsport-Total.

"The second test week was realistic in terms of our potential.

"Towards the end of the week, we could only really get alongside Red Bull and Mercedes, after they had continued to improve throughout the week.

“It was then a surprise to see that we were struggling with unexpected difficulties in Australia, so the situation did not immediately become clear. In Bahrain, for example, we went very well and then had problems again in China.

"That series of ups and downs surprised us, but after four or five races the picture became clearer. After Barcelona, the penny dropped and we realized that we were not fast enough."
