Gasly still ill but ready to fight from 10th

Pierre Gasly revealed he was still a bit ill after qualifying, but that he was excited for the prospects of scoring more points at the Mexican Grand Prix from tenth on the grid. Toro Rosso have been strong all weekend and Gasly will line up just behind his teammate Daniil Kvyat.

There has been a bug going around the paddock and Gasly's managed to pick it up, but despite feeling unwell and sleeping most of the time he's not in the car, the Frenchman put in a solid performance on Saturday.

Gasly said after qualifying: “There’s a virus going round, quite a lot of people are sick. I just got it. It wasn’t a great feeling this morning, but I just tried to rest all day long and to do the job when it mattered.

“Once you get the adrenaline and the speed and you know you have to do the job, you switch to a different zone. In terms of concentration, it’s a bit tougher. I was still able to do a good job, but for sure I wasn’t in my best shape."

Gasly had a theory for why he picked up the illness, blaming it on the Mexican food! He added: “I did eat some tacos! Clearly Mexican food is way more spicy than what we have in France. I don’t really know where it came from. I felt pretty bad but it’s starting to get better.”
