Mick Schumacher has claimed that he is ready to perform in Formula 1, despite an inconsistent season in Formula 2 with Prema. Son of seven time F1 champion Michael, Mick is expected to graduate to F1 at some point in his career, but the general feeling is that 2020 will be too early for him, despite picking up his first F2 race win in Hungary.

Schumacher's season has not been as smooth as the German would have liked, and with Alfa Romeo satisfied with the improvements of Antonio Giovinazzi, Schumacher's F1 prospects next year are looking slim, with another year in F2 much more likely.

Despite all the hype surrounding Schumacher, he is behind another Ferrari young driver in the standings, with Callum Ilott impressing with two podium finishes for the Sauber Junior Team by Charouz.

The 20-year old may also have to watch out for rising Russian star Robert Shwartzmann, who won the F3 title in 2019 and is set for a move to F2 for 2020.

Despite all this, Schumacher feels like he is ready for the big time, and said in an interview with Autoweek“Sure, I think about it. That’s my dream. It’s where I want to go, and that’s where I want to basically live my life. I feel ready.”

“If you arrive in Formula 2, most of the people here would say that they are ready. Obviously a year in F2 where you learn a lot about tyres and stuff helps you for F1, but that doesn’t mean that you will automatically do a good job because there are a lot of different things in F1 that affect your position.”

However, Schumacher does also see the benefit another season of F2 would give him, adding: “Maybe it makes more sense to stay another year in Formula 2 and do a good job. But that doesn’t mean that there will be any seats in F1 open, and you could be sitting there with nothing to drive. It is a bit like the sport choosing you rather you choosing the sport.

“If the chance comes, I will take it. Right now, I’m thinking about F2. We’re here, and that is what I focus on, but I dream about F1."
