Ferrari star Charles Leclerc has revealed it was a "different weekend" for him, personally, at the Japanese Grand Prix, with the 21-year-old receiving a 10-second for his collision with Max Verstappen.

Leclerc forced Verstappen off the track in the opening lap of the race in Suzuka, meaning the Dutchman eventually saw no point in carrying on and retired his Red Bull from the race.

The Monegasque driver has enjoyed a fantastic opening season to life as a Ferrari driver, with this being just his second season in Formula 1, but he has admitted that the race in Japan was a "different" experience for him on a personal level.

“It was a tough race. I made a mistake at the start and made contact with Max (Verstappen) in turn 1, which unfortunately compromised both our races and my front wing was damaged," Leclerc said.

"I tried to make the best of it going forward. After the first stop, when my front wing was changed, I gave it my all. I tried to make up as many positions as possible. Although it was quite fun to overtake other cars and fight my way up the field, P6 is not our target or a result we are satisfied with.

"It was a different weekend overall, and I look forward to the opportunity of bringing home better results once again at the upcoming races.”
