Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc is grateful to have the experience of Sebastian Vettel as his team-mate at the Maranello-based team, in just his second season in Formula 1.

Leclerc impressed during his rookie season in F1 last term with Sauber (now Alfa Romeo) and he was brought into Ferrari as a reward, with Kimi Raikkonen swapping to the 21-year-old's former team.

Vettel has won just one race this season, with the four-time world champion racing brilliantly in Singapore a few weeks ago; but failed to convert a pole to a win in Japan at the weekend.

"I've got no idea (who Ferrari see as their number one driver)," Leclerc said to Channel 4. "But Sebastian has four world championships, and I haven't won any.

"I believe he has a lot of experience. He's very quick, very strong, I'm learning a lot from him and then at the end (of the season) we will see, it's not me making the decision who is number one or number two.

"At the moment, I am happy like this and very lucky to have Seb next to me."

Leclerc has won two times this season, in back-to-back races, in Belgium and Italy, and many have dubbed the young Monegasque driver as Ferrari's number one driver, in just his first season at the Prancing Horse.
