On a day off at Suzuka where there will be no running because of typhoon Hagibis, Renault star Daniel Ricciardo has joked he plans on "going to the beach" during his downtime on Saturday.

Hagibis is set to hit the circuit today, with its winds up to 200 mp/h and heavy rainfall leaving the stewards with no choice but to cancel all running on Saturday to ensure everybody is safe.

FP3 is therefore scrapped and qualifying will be run on Sunday morning, although that could be scrapped too depending on how much damage the typhoon causes on the track today.

In either case, the drivers and teams all have a day off now, and Ricciardo revealed how he planned on spending it.

"I was going to go to the beach. Probably take a jet ski out," he jokingly told Crash.net.

“Everything is going to be closed. We could go for a swim. Let’s all get together, tell stories, it could be a chance for everyone to get rid of technology for a day.

“And do things that people used to do. Maybe we could get around, light a little fire, tell some stories. I don’t know, find a bar or something."

He then had a cheeky little dig at the younger drivers on the grid, and their dependence on having an internet connection!

“What else do you do? WIFI is going to be down. Millennials are going to struggle.”
