Renault star Daniel Ricciardo has thrown out the idea of having two-day Grand Prix weekends from next year onwards rather than three, especially since the F1 calendar will increase from 21 to 22 races.

The grid is currently forced into a two-day weekend because of typhoon Hagibis, with all running on Saturday cancelled because of the hefty storms that are currently raging over the circuit.

It could even mean that the result from FP2 could determine the starting grid, with qualifying currently planned for Sunday morning at 10am local time but with threats of it being cancelled ahead of the race, which is four hours later.

Ricciardo isn't against the idea of having Grand Prix weekend that last two days rather than three, as the Aussie argues there is too much practice at the moment.

“You can get enough done in two days and shorter weekends,” he argued to Crash.net.

“With 22 races next year, instead of being at a weekend for five days, arrive Wednesday and leave Sunday or Monday, to shorten it by a day would be nice.

“It would make the 22 races more doable. As F1 we do too much practice. I don’t think we need four hours.

“A lot of the time we are limited by tyres as well. I’d be happy to have a bit less track time and squeeze it in.”
