"I'm going to be the first female champion in a man's world"

She crashed head-first into a wall at 170 miles per hour at the end of last year at an F3 race in Macau, and almost a year later, 18-year-old Sophia Floersch continues her dream of becoming the first female F1 driver.

Just four months after that crash, the German was already back in the car, underlining just how determined she is to reach her end goal of becoming a Formula 1 champion.

"I'm a rebel, because I'm going to be the first female champion in a man's world," the Van Amersfoort Racing driver said on the BBC's program Rebels.

She revealed that despite her immense talent, which has seen her breaking records like for the youngest points scorer in Formula 4 history, people still doubt her ability as a driver purely because of her gender.

"In the past 14 years, people have been telling me 'Why do actually do this sport?' 'You're a woman you're never going to make it'.

"It motivates me to train harder, to show them that it ís possible. I'm 100% sure a woman can be as quick as a guy and that we can also be world champions. There just need to be more girls starting with the sport."
