Otmar Szafnauer says that he is “optimistic” that SportPesa Racing point “can be scoring well in all of the remaining races” after making positive progress with the car since the summer break.

Before the summer break Lance Stroll’s P4 in the chaotic German Grand prix was the only points finish the team had since his P9 in Canada.

Azerbaijan was the only race Sergio Perez and Stroll had both finished in the points and the Mexican went eight races before returning back to the top 10.

In Spa Perez finished P6 while his teammate rounded off the top 10 and other than a DNF in Singapore he has picked up P7’s in Italy and Russia.

“There have been many positives to focus on since the summer break and there’s no doubt that we have taken some important steps forward with car performance,” said Szafnauer.

“We picked up more points in Russia and I’m optimistic that we can be scoring well in all of the remaining races.”

Taking that momentum in Suzuka Szafnauer and the team look forward to one of the best parts of the season in Japan.

“The race in Japan is always one the team enjoys and it’s a firm favourite with the drivers,” he added.

“The warm reception we receive from the Japanese fans is fantastic and the grandstands are always full. It’s definitely a highlight of the season.”
