Alfa Romeo Racing team principal Frédéric Vasseur has revealed he wants the team to be battling "at the front of the midfield" for the rest of the season, as the Italian outfit currently man the eighth place in the constructors' championship.

Where Kimi Raikkonen has been the star driver for most of the season at Alfa, it has been Antonio Giovinazzi who has been bringing home the bacon in recent races. The Italian finished ninth and tenth at Monza and in Singapore respectively while Raikkonen didn't finish in Singapore and finished 14th in Italy.

Looking ahead to Russia, Charles Leclerc finished best of the rest last season for Alfa Romeo Sauber in P7, with the Sochi Autodrom suiting the C38 well with its straights and 90-degree corners.

"We have scored points in the last few races, often in difficult circumstances, and this is a positive, but we could have scored more," Vasseur said as he remained self-critical.

“Our car is improving and we have shown we can fight at the front of the midfield and our aim is to continue to do so at every round this season.”

“Sochi gives us an occasion to bring back two cars in the points and continue our chase in the championship, but we will need a good weekend in which every team member delivers. I am confident we can be competitive and I am looking forward to the weekend."
