Pierre Gasly has said that the thought of a possible return to Red Bull is “not something I want to focus on much” as the team assess’ whether the Frenchman, Alex Albon or Daniil Kvyat will partner Max Verstappen in 2020.

Gasly was given the promotion to the Red Bull senior team from Toro Rosso at the start of this year after Daniel Ricciardo made the switch to Renault.

But things didn’t go to plan as results didn’t come and he was outperformed by Verstappen largely throughout the first half of the season, prompting Red Bull to make a change.

Gasly made a return to Toro Rosso switching with Albon and is focused on trying to beat new teammate Kvyat as Helmut Marko and Christian Horner assess their candidates for next year.

"It is not something I want to focus [on] so much,” Gasly said to Autosport.

"I know my performance will just keep improving with more weekends and once I get the feeling that 'OK, I know 100% when I do this with the car this will happen, and this and that'.

"So I think I am going to become a bit more consistent.”

"I think we are pretty happy with the level, and the directions we are going with the team, so they are really helping me in that aspect, but of course yes, your first rival is always your team-mate, and that is the first comparison.

"So no, it is always good to beat him."

The Frenchman finished P8 in Singapore ahead of Kvyat in 15th and is focused on the job at hand with Toro Rosso over the next races, wanting to perform as best possible.

"I stopped reading and looking at all the talks because there are so many, and I need to focus on my job with the team," he added.

"I think at the moment, as I said, I am pretty happy with the way it goes, with the performance we are showing, so we'll see what they'll do.

"I am happy with Toro Rosso, and I just need to perform as much as I can for this team, and we'll see what they decide in the future."
