Carlos Sainz has called for Formula 1 to see how good the 2021 Formula 1 cars are before any decisions regarding changing the Formula 1 weekend structure are made. After the incident in Q3 at Monza many have called for qualifying to change but the McLaren driver wants to wait and see.

"I personally think we should look at it first," Sainz said to RaceFans.net. "It is first seen how things work out with a field that is closer to each other and where the cars can follow better.

"As soon as we have cars in 2021 that can follow in one second - that is my wish: that every driver can make a difference - then we may not need all those changes, because then we will have the best possible F1.

“So why should we not better focus on creating a royal class as it should be: where the mutual relationships are not determined by money so that there is more competition, and where following is better. Then you suddenly need a good F1 and you don't need anything else," Sainz concluded.

Formula 1 is thought to want to experiment in 2020 with different interpretations of race weekends with the aim of preventing predictability. For example, there was talk about the introduction of a shorter sprint race to determine the starting order on Saturday, as well as qualifying with a reversed grid - something that is already taking place in Formula 2.

It will be interesting to see what decision Formula 1 makes.
