Despite the recent dip in form, Lewis Hamilton has given his team Mercedes a vote of confidence as he came out and says the Silver Arrows are "still the best team" in Formula 1, as the five-time champion finished fourth after a questionable strategy call.

The Brit put in a massive qualifying lap to somehow get on the front row on the grid despite Mercedes' lack of pace at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, and he had a promising start of the race. He was right on top of Charles Leclerc until the Monegasque pitted first.

As Hamilton reveals, he wasn't a fan of this strategy, as he had proposed something else.

"I knew we should [have] undercut, I knew it this morning in the brief I said let's just take the risk and they didn’t," he told present media including BBC Sport F1.

"We win and lose together as a team, we all take it on the chin and it’s painful for us because we easily could have won today.

"It feels like [Ferrari] are hungrier at the moment so we have to step it up. We’re still the best team and we have the ability. We need to stop dragging out feet and get on. We will huddle, get in the scrum, and get back in the race."
