Juan Manuel Correa taken out of induced coma!

Juan Manuel Correa has been taken out of a medically induced coma and has been removed from life support as he continues to make steady progress following the crash which tragically killed Anthoine Hubert.

Correa had been in a medically induced coma for two weeks since he arrived in the UK for specialist care. Earlier this week a statement said he was still assisted by the ECMO and that his legs were a great concern as they could not operate on them given his fragile status.

However, it now appears as if his condition has improved slightly with a statement revealing he is out of the induced coma and his condition has been changed to serious.

"As of today, Juan Manuel Correa has been removed from the ECMO [extracorporeal membrane oxygenation] machine, life support and taken out of induced coma," a statement read.

"While this is great news and a major step in the right direction, he is still in a race against time.

"The medical priority for Juan Manuel now shifts from the lungs to the leg injuries that were sustained more than two weeks ago and have not been addressed since the initial emergency intervention the day of the incident.

"Doctors are in a race against time to perform a pending major surgery in order to minimize risk of irreversible injuries to his right lower extremity but can't proceed until lungs are ready to withstand a lengthy operation."
