The 2021 regulation changes are set to be Liberty Media's first big impact on the world of Formula 1, having bought the product in 2017. However, former chief Bernie Ecclestone sees no need for big change and reveals his thoughts on a budget cap.

In January 2017 Liberty media purchased the Formula 1 group for a total of US $4.6 billion after a deal was agreed late the previous year. The 2021 changes are seen as their first big changes with a budget cap and the size of the wheels two of the biggest talking points.

Bernie Ecclestone was Formula 1 Chief Executive until 2017 following the change of hands, with Chase Carey assuming the role. However, he remained chairman emeritus and acts as an advisor, with his wealth of experience.

In an interview with Auto Motor Sport, Bernie revealed his opinion on the 2021 changes as well as one of the most discussed features.

"I see no reason for big change. If so, then you would have to change something dramatically. For example, back to naturally aspirated engines. But there's no courage," Ecclestone said.

"We do not need a budget cap. If the technical regulations are well written, there is no reason for it."
