Mercedes boss Toto Wolff expects arch-rivals Ferrari to be stronger this coming weekend in Singapore than they were in Italy last weekend, despite many predicting the Silver Arrows to have the strongest chance of winning at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Ferrari won their second consecutive race in Italy after also winning in Belgium the week before, with Charles Leclerc making no mistakes from pole position for his second win in the famous red car.

Mercedes sit 154 points ahead of their nearest competitors Ferrari, with 505 points on the board. Asked by RaceFans whether Mercedes could switch their attention to the 2020 season given the sizeable lead, Wolff answered: "The intensity is still on for 2019.

"There’s seven races to go and we have a solid gap in both championships. But obviously a string of one or two really bad weekends can make it swing in the other direction so we’ve got to keep pushing and this is what will do.

"You can’t take anything for granted. We knew that Spa and Monza will be difficult for us and this is how it happened. Singapore on paper looks much better for us and the [Red] Bulls. But no doubt Ferrari will also have learned in the meantime and will have a better package there, better than Hungary."

Mercedes started the season off in dominant style, but Red Bull and Ferrari have both been stronger than the Brackley-based squad in recent races.
