Daniil Kvyat has admitted that he “cannot get too greedy” with the possibility of a return to Red Bull on the cards for 2020 after Pierre Gasly’s demotion, insisting he is doing “the best job possible” for Toro Rosso.

Kvyat was once in a very similar position that Gasly is in now. Back in 2016 the Russian was demoted from the senior team and eventually dropped overall by Toro Rosso near the end of 2017.

He made his return to F1 with Red Bull’s sister team this year and has provided decent results, with a third place pdium in Germany being his best result.

Alexander Albon replaced Gasly at Red Bull with Dr Helmut Marko wanting to evaluate who would line up next to Max Verstappen for 2020.

Kvyat told Motorsport.com: "One thing with Red Bull, it's always open.

"Whenever someone doesn't perform, there's always automatic pressure.

"Especially when there's someone else in the junior team performing. And it's not going to change the next few months.

“I cannot get too greedy, because it's incredible that I've already managed to come back to Formula 1.

"But then already all of you were pushing me to the senior team after a couple of months since I came back, in the media.

Maybe things are going fast. For sure Red Bull has their own plan. They know best what is for them.

“I just keep doing my job. As I said, my job is to do the best job possible for Toro Rosso and I will keep doing as good as I can."

Kvyat is currently 10thin the drivers’ standings, one point behind the promoted Albon and 32 points behind Gasly.
