Toro Rosso largely struggled today in practice as Formula one returned for the first time since the summer break. Daniil Kvyat finished 17th and 14th in the two sessions, while Pierre Gasly ended up 18th and 17th in the sessions.

Gasly was dropped from Red Bull earlier this month to be replaced by Alexander Albon but found it tough as he was in the Toro Rosso car for the first time since the switch.

Kvyat spoke about how he feels the car went after the first two practice sessions.

"This kind of track can either be quite good or quite poor and at the moment, it’s quite poor for us," he said after the two sessions.

Today our car wasn’t suited to this track as well as it is to some others. We will see what we can find for tomorrow, but I’m not too concerned."

Gasly admitted that it was difficult to adjust after only just joining the team.

"It’s been a bit tricky in terms of pace for us, so we need to work and find out which direction to take for tomorrow to be more competitive.

Some drivers will have penalties this weekend, so we need to make sure we have a good race car for Sunday.”

The team have started well and currently sit fifth in the standings on 43 points but are someway off the team above them, McLaren.
